While both were attending China's International Agrochemical & Crop Protection Exhibition (CAC) in March, Mr. Nick Gooch, Founder and CEO of Pangaea Biosciences and Mr. Taylor Liu, Managing Director Chongqing Shining Fine Chemicals Co. signed a Heads of Agreement for the Chinese market, thereby achieving new milestones for both organisations. The agreement appointed Shining to act as Pangaea’s master distributor in China, whilst distributing Pangaea Bioscience products to local distributors in what is a very large and diverse market.
Pangaea Biosciences has developed a portfolio of crop protection products that protect plants from insect, weed and pathogen resistance issues. Shining is a distributor and exporter of various agricultural goods including pesticides, fertilisers, and other agrotechnology products. A significant initial order for Booster ™ was placed for test marketing purposes.
Meetings were also held with distribution candidates in China who have already been trialling Pangaea's Booster™ and Tardis™. Results on resistant pests like thrips red spider mite and diamond back moth are exciting. ″The results so far are even better than we have expected in this enormous insecticide- driven market,″ says Nick Gooch.
Pangaea Biosciences and Shining expect to fully launch the products in China in Q2 of this year.
Already, the largest insecticide distributor in China has started to trial Pangaea’s products. The area this company participates in is double the total cropping area of the UK, so it is greatly significant. Similarly, other large distributors in China have also started trials, as have Pangaea Biosciences themselves in a number of Asiatic countries.
Roger Pinder, Global Business Development Consultant for Pangaea Biosciences, explains that resistance is an incredibly significant issue globally and Pangaea’ Biosciences product Booster™ is designed to overcome resistance and rejuvenate older chemistry. Booster™ deactivates the metabolic pathway (cytochrome P450) in insects, weeds and diseases which cause the breakdown of the insecticide, herbicide or fungicide applied. Its great strength is that in doing so it rejuvenates older chemistry, a major advantage to the farmer who has few choices of product now, given the huge cost to bring a novel chemical to the market.
It has also launched its novel and patented delivery system, Tardis™ which complements Booster™ in optimising the control of resistant organisms when tank-mixed with the agrochemical partner as it delays the release of the pesticide giving Booster™ time to break the resistance.
″Resistance is a major problem globally. Consequently, it is a significant threat to global food security,″ says Nick ″The ability to bring back a range of chemistries which have all started to fail in the market through resistance problems has enormous appeal to farmers all over the world.″
