This project aims to transform waste streams into bio-based fertilisers to reduce the dependence on mineral fertilisers in European agriculture. The project will advance and demonstrate a suite of innovative extraction techniques. With these techniques, key ingredients of bio-based fertilisers will be produced from diverse waste streams, including sewage sludge, fish processing waste and wastewater, mixed food waste, and agri-food residues.

FiBL Switzerland will be leading the sustainability assessment of the developed fertilisers and contribute to the agronomic performance evaluation of the fertilisers by conducting pot trials. Its contributions in the project will be based on its longstanding expertise in nutrient management and life cycle assessment in farming systems.
