The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has granted the multinational UPL registration for the country’s first ″bio-stimulant bionematicide″ for agriculture.
Nimaxxa is formulated from Bacillus paralicheniformis, isolate CH2970 + Bacillus paralicheniformis, isolate CH0273 + Bacillus subtilis, isolate CH4000. ″These three strains, which have been carefully selected, are exclusive to UPL and work in a complementary manner to ensure plant protection and growth stimulation,″ UPL said.
According to the manufacturer, the product was already marketed as a biological nematicide. It has now undergone scientific tests and validations that have proved their efficacy in stimulating plants, resulting in increased crop productivity.
The product is part of the Natural Plant Protection (NPP) portfolio, which is UPL's business unit. Bruno Carloto, Seed Treatment and Soil Health Manager at UPL Brazil, added, ″Nimaxxa is concrete proof of UPL’s exclusive concept, OpenAg, which transforms us into a collaborative and open agricultural innovation network.″
″This bio-solution represents a significant technological advancement, having stimulation effects that truly result in higher productivity in a sustainable way. The new registration reflects our consistent investment and proud pioneering in this segment,″ he said.
According to Carloto, the three biological agents present in Nimaxxa, once applied, quickly colonize the roots, forming a biofilm (a biological barrier) that lasts throughout the crop cycle, protecting the plant against major nematodes – such as cyst nematodes, root-knot nematodes, and lesion nematodes. He noted that this offers a bio-stimulant effect, as evidenced by the new registration obtained from Mapa after the rigorous regulatory process characteristic of the sector.
Another advantage of Nimaxxa, according to UPL Brazil, is that the bio-stimulant bionematicide has a shelf life of 2 years without refrigeration. Additionally, seeds treated with Nimaxxa can be stored for up to six months without losing viability.
″This represents a major technological advancement in biologicals,″ said the seed treatment and soil health manager at UPL Brazil. ″It also has high compatibility with chemical inputs and can be mixed with all market seed treatments,″ he added.
According to the manufacturer, the product results from a partnership between UPL and Novonesis, a global company specializing in bio-solutions.
Rogério Castro, CEO of UPL Brazil, stated that this registration is an ″achievement that is part of our ongoing strategy to develop solutions focused on farmers, whose vocation is to produce to feed the planet.″
″This milestone not only demonstrates the potential and robustness of Nimaxxa but also strengthens UPL’s global goal of being a reference in sustainability, technology, and innovation,″ he added.
