Sumitomo Chemical’s Health & Crop Sciences section sales for the FY2012 ended March 31, 2013, were ¥262.6 billion, a decrease by ¥1.6 billion compared with the previous fiscal year, and operating income declined by ¥0.2 billion, to ¥26.3 billion. Health & Crop Sciences segment includes crop protection chemicals, fertilizers, feed additives, household and public hygiene insecticides, and active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates.
In the area of crop protection chemicals, shipments of herbicides and other products rose,especially in overseas markets, due to increased production capacity and sales expansion.But shipments of household insecticides and the long-lasting insecticidal mosquito net,Olyset® Net, decreased. Market prices of the feed additive methionine declined.
