Dow AgroSciences to launch Arylex™ herbicide
Date:03-25-2014
Dow AgroSciences has a new herbicide active ingredient in development for cereals, which could receive registration later this year and be on the market in time for the 2015 crop season, said Abe Smith, market development specialist for the company. Branded Arylex, it’s Dow’s first new active ingredient for winter wheat since 2007.
"The whole industry has been responsive about using multiple active ingredients as a resistant management tool," Smith said. "That’s one reason Arylex won’t be sold on its own—it will be paired with other active ingredients to heighten resistance management."
Arylex is the first member of a new structural class of synthetic auxin herbicides. Smith said the molecule will be
classified as a Group 4 herbicide, the same category as 2,4-D and dicamba. It will be labelled for a variety of broadleaf weed species, he added.
