BASF Crop Protection inaugurated its new technology center for seed treatment in Santo Antônio de Posse (located 150 km from São Paulo, Brazil), further expanding the Company’s research activities in South America. The new complex will provide technological support as BASF continues to improve and promote the local seed treatment business. Investments in the research station amount to US$5 million.

With state of the art equipment, the new center will deliver innovation and services for the seed treatment business across several fronts. These include product and service development as well as improved training for the sales force through workshops and field days.

"The ultimate goal is to develop new products that can meet the needs of seed companies,” said Leandro Martins, BASF Crop Protection, Director of R&D for Latin America. “So we’re focusing on the crops that are important to our region: soybeans, corn, cotton, beans, wheat, barley, sunflower, canola, sorghum and peanuts."

In addition to the new technology center, BASF also announced the purchase of an additional 50 hectare plot next to the experimental station, expanding its total area to 106 hectares.  The expansion will provide the structure for the upcoming activities. The number of employees on the site will also increase to 60 from 50 by the end of 2013.
