Syngenta is solidifying its position as a global leader in biological inputs with the acquisition of Novartis assets, the inauguration of a new factory in the United States, and strategic partnerships to accelerate innovation. This is the view of Anderson Nacaxe, CEO and Co-Founder of Oken Finance, who provided a special analysis on the exponential growth of the bio-inputs market.

Novartis Acquisition: Expansion in Research

Syngenta has acquired Novartis's repository of natural compounds and genetic strains for agricultural use, securing exclusive access to a library of promising molecules. The transaction includes incorporating Novartis's Biomolecular Chemistry team and leasing facilities in Basel, Switzerland. This strengthens Syngenta's research capabilities in bioengineering, data science, and advanced fermentation.

New Factory in the U.S.: Expansion in Production

The inauguration of the first large-scale biological production plant in the U.S. located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, underscores Syngenta's commitment to meeting growing global demand. The facility will expand the supply of innovative solutions for North America and Latin America, bolstering the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.

Strategic Partnerships: Accelerating Innovation

Syngenta has announced strategic collaborations to expand its line of biologicals, including:

  •  Provivi: Pheromones against pests in Asian crops.

  •  Ginkgo Bioworks: Accelerating research in biologicals.

  •  Intrinsyx Bio: optimizing nutrient use efficiency.

  •  Lavie Bio: development of bioinsecticides.

  •  Lithos Crop Protect: sprayable pheromones against the Western Corn Rootworm.

  •  TraitSeq: using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate new biologicals.

According to Anderson Nacaxe, these partnerships "reinforce Syngenta's strategy of open innovation and advanced technology to consolidate its leadership." The expert recalls that biological inputs "revolutionize agriculture by offering sustainable alternatives for crop protection and nutrition."

In his analysis of the bio-inputs market, he includes biocontrol (the use of living organisms for pest control), biostimulants (enhancing plant resistance), and nutrient use efficiency, providing greater flexibility in management and contributing to regenerative agriculture.

"Syngenta is striving to strengthen its leadership over patent rivals BASF, Bayer, and Corteva Agriscience by further investing in research, expanding production, and forming strategic partnerships. The acquisition of Novartis and the new factory in the U.S. are clear moves to consolidate an innovative portfolio. The company's progress reflects the growing market demand for sustainable agricultural solutions, positioning biologicals as key players in the new agribusiness revolution," concludes the CEO and Co-Founder of Oken Finance.
