China approves registration of first albendazole-fluopyram nematocidal mixture

On November 12, 2024, the albendazole 5%+ fluopyram 25% SC filed by Guizhou Dowyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd was granted registration in China, for control of tobacco root-knot nematode. This is the first registration of albendazole in China as nematocidal product.

Albendazole is a benzimidazole-based systemic fungicide, being also registered as a veterinary drug, protective and curative, with effective inhibition of generation of triphosadenine in bacteria and nematoid cells, making survival and reproduction impossible. The product was previously registered in China for prevention and control of crop diseases such as wheat powdery mildew, wheat scab, rust, rice blast, sheath blight, bacterial streak, Chinese cabbage downy mildew and cucumber bacterial angular leaf spot.

In pesticide applications, up to November 15, 2024, Guizhou Dowyuan Biotechnology was granted an exclusive registration of albendazole 98% TC in China; Guizhou Dowyuan Biotechnology was granted an exclusive registration of albendazole formulations, with 10 formulation products in total, 3 single agents; 7 mixtures, 7 suspensions, 2 water dispersible granules and 1 wettable powder.
