ADAMA has just obtained an extension of registration for its insecticide Magnum® (acephate) for bean and peanut crops in Brazil.

With this approval, the product becomes an important tool in the management of key pests such as whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), bean leafhopper (Empoasca kraemeri) and thrips (Enneothrips flavens), which cause serious damage to the productivity of these crops.

In the case of beans, the whitefly is a difficult-to-control pest that has bothered producers in several producing regions, such as in the interior of São Paulo and Paraná, as it is responsible for transmitting golden mosaic, the primary virus that affects beans. In some cases, farmers stopped growing beans at certain times of the year due to the incidence of this pest. Magnum® acts to control whiteflies, contributing to efficiently managing the virus.

In peanuts, Magnum®'s focus will be on controlling thrips, one of the main pests of the crop. The most critical period for the pest to occur in crops is at the beginning of the cycle, between 25 and 60 days after planting. These insects deform the leaves, creating silvery streaks that reduce the plants' photosynthetic capacity and, consequently, can negatively impact productivity, reducing crop productivity by 10 to 75%.

"The expansion of Magnum® registration for beans and peanuts represents an important advance in pest management for these crops," said Raphael Malandrino, product manager (insecticides) at ADAMA.

"With the increasing pressure from insects such as whiteflies and thrips, it is essential that we offer producers efficient tools for integrated pest management, enabling the rotation of active ingredients and minimizing the development of pest resistance to insecticides," he added.

Malandrino highlighted that ADAMA is committed to increasingly contributing to farmers, offering versatile solutions adapted to the needs of different crops.

"Magnum® has already demonstrated its effectiveness in the production of cotton, potatoes, citrus, soybeans and tomatoes and can now also help control critical pests in beans and peanuts, improving the productivity and profitability of these crops," he reinforced.
