ZDC Zhanteng Kasugamycin 0.5% • Metalaxyl-M 0.2% GR- A special effect formulation with unique registration in China

ZDC Zhanteng (Kasugamycin 0.5% • Metalaxyl-M 0.2% GR) is registered for control of root rot and damping off of eggplant, being the only formulation registered in China. 

The product can effectively prevent and control soil-borne diseases, not only due to its distinctive advantages of broad anti-microbial spectrum, easy to use, high safety, low toxicity and long-lasting effect, but also because of its combination with biostimulants such as kelp extract and mineral source fulvic acid. Hence, it has the dual effect of pesticide and fertilizer, as well as the functions of improving soil condition, promoting root growth and seedling development.

Soil-borne diseases are caused by pathogens living in the soil, which attack crops on roots or stems at certain conditions. The infectious pathogens include fungi, bacteria, actinomycetes and nematodes, among which fungi and bacteria are the major pathogens. For example, pythium causes seedling rot and damping off and rhizoctonia causes seedling blight. In recent years, as a result of continuous cropping, soil worsening and excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer, soil-borne diseases such as root rot, withering, damping off and wilting occur repeatedly. Occurrence of soil-borne diseases will result in yield reduction, even crop failure, which seriously threaten the yield and quality of agricultural production worldwide.

ZDC Zhanteng was granted registration by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in October 2021. Through research on application technology, ZDC continuously optimizes the product formulation and promotes Zhanteng through demonstration trials, in-field observations and technical trainings. Over the last two years since its launch, Zhanteng’s outstanding effectiveness in preventing and controlling soil-borne diseases has been proven by numerous growers who have applied it to a large variety of crops.

Zhanteng is a formulation of Kasugamycin and Metalaxyl-M. Kasugamycin is an ideal agricultural antibiotic for prevention and treatment of various bacterial and fungal diseases. It is not only specialized in prevention and control of rice blast, but is also very effective in the control of rice streak, citrus gummosis and dark spot, kiwi canker, chili bacterial scab, celery early blight, phaseolus blight and water bamboo helminthosporium leaf spot. After application, Kasugamycin is highly safe for crops, with less residues and lower toxicity to the environment and organisms. It is classified as a recommended pesticide for Pollution-free Agricultural Products Production by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture due to its low toxicity and low residue. Metalaxyl-M is a systemic and broad-spectrum fungicide, which is very effective in control of downy mildew, phytophthora fungus and pythium fungus on vegetable, fruit tree, tobacco, oilseed, cotton and grain crops. It’s mainly used to prevent and control plant diseases caused by fungi. When being applied to soil, the bactericidal ingredient and fungicidal ingredient in Zhanteng enable the product to generate a synergistic effect eradicating common fungi and bacteria pathogens in soil. Zhanteng also achieves a good preventive effect against diseases above ground via the systemic conduction of the root system. 

Through formulation and process innovation, ZDC’s R&D team has developed a bio-source carrier ZT-3, which is particularly added with biostimulants and natural nutrients such as kelp enzymatic hydrolysate and fulvic acid. In addition to its pesticide function, the bio-source carrier ZT-3 brings Zhanteng multiple effects including correcting acidic soil, promoting root and seedling growth, improving crop quality, and enhancing stress resistance. 

Besides the bio-source carrier ZT-3 which has the effect of slow release of nutrients, ZDC’s R&D team also developed a fully water-soluble formulation of Zhanteng, which makes the product applicable to different crop growth stages and adaptable to various application scenarios, providing growers with more flexible ways of application
