China's Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) announced recently the latest list of pesticides that would be granted registration that included the first chemical pesticide that works against spodoptera frugiperda and is owned by Syngenta.
It is reported that the registrations announced for public comment involve a total of 370 pesticide products that have filed for registration, with 79 registrations made for changes in the pesticide product information. Among them, Syngenta’s cyantraniliprole.thiamethoxam 40% seed treatment suspension has filed for extended scope of application, which will cover prevention and control of cornfield Spodoptera frugiperda, to be applied in the form of seed coating. The product used to be registered for control of cornfield athetis lepigone, beet armyworm, armyworm, thrips, grub and black cutworm.
Previously, ICAMA approved the registration of nine products for control of Spodoptera frugiperda, with active ingredients including Bacillus thuringiensis, Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, Mamestra brassicae L.NPV, Matrine and Azadirachtin, all of which are low-toxic and environment-friendly biopesticides or botanical pesticides.
