Koppert Biological Systems, a Dutch company specialized in biological crop protection, has acquired the Argentine company Nitrasoil. In addition to the physical expansion within South America, this purchase takes the company into a new sector in the agricultural market: inoculants.
With the acquisition of the industrial unit in Argentina and its portfolio of inoculants and biological protection products, Koppert intends to expand the range of products it offers, and also meet the needs of farmers in the Southern Cone: Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. "We are taking a very important step into the inoculants market, in which Koppert has not been active until now. Nitrasoil has a lot of experience in this sector, which fits perfectly with Koppert’s portfolio of microbiological products," states Martin Koppert, Director Agri of Koppert Biological Systems.
For Koppert’s commercial director in Brazil, Gustavo Herrmann, this is a strategic acquisition, as it expands Koppert’s footprint in South America. "We estimate that the inoculants market for large-scale farmers in the Southern Cone reaches 120 million doses per year, and we expect to obtain a 10% share of this market within five years," he explains.
According to Carlos Gaziglia, president of Nitrasoil, this merger is not only important for his company, which will be present in the countries serviced by Koppert. "The local market will benefit from a wider range of biological products for the control of pests and diseases," he believes.
