Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved the inclusion of new monographs in May 2019. They include one chemical herbicide and three biological defenses, being a nematicide to be used as biological control agent, a microbiological insecticide and a biological nematicide.
The first resolution published by Anvisa includes the monograph of the herbicide florpyrauxifen-benzyl, also called by the codes: XDE-848; XR-848; XDE-848 BE, and CAS No. (Chemical Abstract Service Registry): 1390661-72-9. Its chemical name is benzyl 4-amino-3-chloro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)-5-fluoropyridine-2-carboxylate.
Of the chemical group picolinic acid, this new ingredient has toxicological classification "Class III", or "Moderately toxic." Its agricultural use is authorized in the post-emergence of weeds in the following crops: coffee, citrus, cabbage, tobacco and rice.
The second resolution released by Anvisa is favorable to the registration of the biological control agent Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, an entomopathogenic nematode of the Taxonomic class that acts as an insecticide. The Agricultural Defense Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture (SDA / MAPA) determines that the indication in the package insert can be made by biological target, and the culture in which studies can be carried out. As it is a living animal, there is no toxicological classification.
The third resolution published by Anvisa includes the monograph of the microbiological insecticide Cordyceps fumosorosea, a fungus also called Isaria fumosorosea, Spicaria fumosorosea, Paecilomyces fumosoroseus and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus. Also, according to the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, the toxicological classification of products formulated based upon microorganisms is determined in studies carried out with each commercial product.
Finally, the latest resolution published by Anvisa includes the monograph of the microbiological nematicide
Purpureocillium lilacinum, also known as
Paecilomyces lilacinus. Its type of application is applied in the treatment of seeds and planting furrow. Its use is authorized to control biological targets indicated in any crop in which they occur, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
