Making the turf grow - Innovative seed technology from DSV

Concluding years of research and extensive lab and field testing, Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV) is launching a new seed technology. By commissioning a new production facility that was built for the purpose, the company sets the course for introducing the new technology to the market.

DynaSeed is a new generation of seed treatment technology, explains the breeder. During the past few years the researchers at DSV have developed a wide range of different methods and additives that boost the dynamics of the developing processes in plants and increase the resilience of plants to environmental conditions. For example, they significantly improve emergence, including the germination rate and velocity as well as the handling properties of the product. DSV underlines that all DynaSeed products are thoroughly tested, offer a visibly extra value and are harmless to the environment. The new formulations were verified by the German Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and are listed in Germany’s official list of inputs approved for organic farming.

“At DSV, DynaSeed is a synonym for intelligent seed improvement. Enhancing the technology of seeds with first-class genetic material is simply the next logical step for us the breeders”, comments Dr Axel Kaske (Deputy Executive Board Member).

The new technology is suitable for application in various market segments. DSV reckons it is particularly beneficial for grass seeds used in both the professional and private sector. The extremely effective products are sold through regular dealer outlets. Improving substantially the germination rate and plant establishment, they have brought about very successful results in the area of professional greenkeeping such as football stadiums but also in amateur applications.

DSV is particularly proud of its TurfPearls® seeds which are used in overseeding where they have greatly enhanced the performance and ease of application. “Every single seed is dressed by a special coat that offers an enormous water retention capacity and contains active substances that improve the emergence rate substantially,” explains Lars Obernolte, Product Manager Turf. “As overseeding products are usually not incorporated in the ground we gave the seed a coat that provides the same conditions that are usually provided by the soil. In fact, during the critical stage of germination the coat may perfectly act as a substitute for the soil, hence boosting emergence.” Their high specific weight makes the DSV TurfPearls® particularly easy and uniform to broadcast. There is no need to incorporate the seeds in the ground. Birds and wash-out after rainfall are no longer a hazard.
