Formulated product sales jumped 3.8% in Brazil in 2013, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA). In that year, 495,764.55 tons were sold in that country, while 477,792.44 tons were commercialized in 2013.
Besides, other 17,746.18 tons of technical products were sold in the Brazilian market in 2013. In this indicator, there was a sharp reduction of 87.7% compared to 2012, when nearly 144,535.15 tons were sold.
In 2013, 135 registration holding companies presented semiannual reports of technical products, agrochemicals and related. The agency received 4,947 reports, being 1,717 technical products and 3,200 referred to formulated products. The reports covered a total of 373 active ingredients, which only 85 had the values released (in order to guarantee commercial confidentiality).
The reports pointed out that the sales of formulated products tagged as insecticides were very significant if compared to previous years. In 2013, 56,993.88 tons of active ingredients were sold, an increase of 53% compared to 2012. This growth can be related to numerous factors such as pest control due to resistance, temporary emergency authorization of products to combat corn earworm.
