Brazil IBAMA released the pesticide production and sales surveys for 2012qrcode

The Brazilian environmental agency (IBAMA)  has recently published national pesticide production and sales surveys for 2012. 

In 2012, volume sales of agrochemicals recorded a 12.1% increase to 622,327.6 tons, including 477,792.4 tons of formulated products and 144,535.2 tons of technical products, according to the IBAMA. The surveys covered 127 pesticide registration companies.

The national production increased 18.9% to 525,141 tons in 2012. In addition, imports rose 13% at 250,000 tons, while exports largely dropped by 33.2% to 20,806.4 tons. The IBAMA defined technical product as one directly obtained from raw materials, containing active ingredients and impurities.

The IBAMA also issued volume sales of top 10 ais. The herbicide glyphosate led the volume sales at 187,777.2 tons, followed by mineral oil, the herbicides, 2,4-D, and atrazine, as well as vegetable oil, the insecticide, acephate, sulfur fungicides, the herbicide, diuron, and the fungicides, carbendazim, and mancozeb.

The IBAMA also classified the pesticides based on the risk degree.Class III pesticides (dangerous to the environment), represented 64.1% of volume sales, while class II (very dangerous to the environment) accounted for 27.7%. Class IV (mild dangerous) made up 7.5% of volume sales, and Class I (highly dangerous) less than 1%.

As per the statement of IBAMA, the agent received 127 companies half-yearly reports for a total 4,612 registered pesticides, covering 1,546 technical products and 3,066 formulated products, which involved 368 active ingredients.
