Australian pesticide sales expected to up 10% in 2013/14

According to the gazette released by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), the estimated pesticide sales in Australia increased by 9.6% comparing with the previous year to Aus$ 2,516.4 million (US$ 2,055.2 million at the current rate) in the fiscal year 2014 which ended June 30th 2014. The collated interim product sales data received up until 12 December 2014, which comprises of 92.5% of all agrochemical products. The final sales data for the 2013-14 financial year will be released in March 2015, according to the APVMA.
Herbicides were the largest category with sales up 16.9% to Aus$ 1,474.6 million (US$ 1,204.3 million), accounting for 59% of the total sales. Sales of insecticides were up slightly by 1.3% to Aus$ 355.3 million (US$ 290.2 million). Sales of fungicides increased by 5.6% to Aus$ 174.1 million (US$ 142.2 million).
There were 8,564 registered pesticide products on the market in the fiscal 2014, compared with 8,114 last year. The registered products include 3,083 herbicides, 1,365 insecticides, 874 fungicides, 614 household insecticides and 242 growth promoters/regulators.
