Brazil agchem sales up by 34% until July 2013

According to the data released by the Brazilian Crop Protection Industry Union, the Sindiveg, Brazil’s agrochemical sales posted a 42% increase to R$ 1,799 million in July 2013 compared to the same period of previous year. For the first seven months of 2013, the sales rose by 34% to R$ 8,435 million year-over-year. Growth was driven primarily by the plantings of soybean, corn, wheat, potato and tomato etc.

For the seven months of 2013, insecticides were the largest category, representing 39% of total agrochemical sales and increasing by 40% to R$ 3,250 million. The soybean and corn resulted in the sales growth, while the sales for cotton, sugarcane and citrus dropped.

Herbicides accounting for 38% of sales, which rose by 37% to R$3,196 million.The growth was due to the soybean, corn, beans, wheat, while the cotton and sugarcane hindered the sales increase.

Fungicides sales increased by 27% to R$ 1,599 million and comprised 17% of agrochemical sales. The soybean, corn and wheat were the key factor of sales growth, but cotton and beans decreased the sales rise.

The acaricidas recorded growth of 14% and accounted for 1% of total sales.
