Syngenta has launched contact herbicide, Retro (diquat), in the UK as a direct replacement for PDQ (paraquat dichloride), which is no longer available. Retro is approved for use on potatoes, sugar beet, and vegetable crops including peas and beans. Retro's control of broad-leaved weeds in potatoes matches PDQ's, the company claims. Syngenta potato manager Simon Parker says that growers will be able to use Retro at the same mixtures and rates as PDQ. Growers can use remaining stocks of PDQ in the next growing season, but all applications must be finished by July 11th 2008.
