Chinese scientists first to the millet genome physical map of haplotype

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of National Center for Gene Research, Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology Research Institute and other units jointly composed of eight research team, completed the world's first millet haplotype map construction and 47 major agronomic traits genome-wide association analysis, correlation results on June 24 published online in the journal <<Nature - Genetics >>,  the Millet genetics research indicates that China has made important breakthroughs in the field.

Project Leader, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Diao China as a researcher on the 24th introduced millet originated in China is an ancient crop, also known as millet, millet after shelling in northern China has more than 10,000 years of cultivation history. Millet has prominent drought resistance, barren, and high light efficiency characteristics, and is great potential for development mode xeric cereal crops. millet resources of the world's total stock of more than 80%, but a long time, due to lack of reliable and efficient molecular marker information, researchers on these genetic resources is still a lack of understanding of the population structure, thus limiting the right millet genetic resources utilization efficiency and depth of excavation.

The project through the domestic and 916 varieties of millet whole genome resequencing low times and sequence analysis, construct a haplotype map of fine millet, and a millet varieties and wild relatives to carry out an in-depth genome sequence assembly, constructed more than 2 million high-density molecular marker haplotype map, and systematically identified 512 and plant type, yield, flowering, disease resistance and other agronomic traits 47 closely related genetic seat, also identified excavated 36 new varieties of millet cultivation process of being selected specific gene loci.

Diao China said that these results for the millet genetic improvement and gene discovery research provides the basis for massive data and information that will facilitate the development of a xeric millet grass and high light efficiency of crop photosynthesis model crop, but also will be the future of cereal crops improved varieties, the genetic analysis of energy crops have a profound impact.
