3.2 billion FCFA in favor of the EU seed producers in Africaqrcode

The European Union has provided equipment worth 5 million euros, or 3.2 billion CFA francs in favor of seed producers in Burkina Faso, said on Sunday at the Ministry of Agriculture.

This grant is intended to support project in strengthening the foundations of food security and aims to enhance the production of quality seeds at the most affected by climate shocks Burkina Faso rural communities.

It is a 24-month project that covers all thirteen regions of Burkina Faso, whose implementation is entrusted to the United Nations (FAO).

The project is implemented with the contribution of different partners such as ministries of agriculture, scientific research, and producer organizations.

The European Union and FAO wanted, through this project, provide seed producers of equipment and quality materials that will help them to develop and diversify their means of labor.

The equipment includes laptops, desktops, chairs and sorting, grading and threshers.

 "Our help is in the creation of wealth and the fight against hunger. We support the government and producers of Burkina Faso, to increase agricultural productivity, the first link in the food safety, "said the Ambassador of the European Union, Allain Holleville.

Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, remission materials will allow unions to be more efficient seed in the daily management and funding of actions carried out a campaign to another.

Currently the Union producers covers 13-17% of seed requirements and the aim is to reach 50% in the next five years.

The project supports the strengthening of the foundations of food security ends in December 2013.
