Syngenta Canada Inc. announced the appointment of Justin Bouvier to the position of Cereal Research Associate, reflecting the organization’s continued commitment to the cereals sector and its dedication to the development of cereal technologies in particular.

"Cereals are a strategic crop for Syngenta globally, which translates to a substantial investment of resources for these crops in North America generally and Canada specifically,” explains Norm Dreger, Head of Cereals in North America for Syngenta. “The result is an unrivalled focus on breeding, genetics and crop protection advancements that will not only enhance profitable cereal production for Canadian growers, but also ensure they are well equipped to help shoulder the responsibility of feeding a growing world population.”

The company’s commitment to cereals is supported by a number of compelling facts including:

• Syngenta is the world’s largest commercial cereal seed breeder
• Syngenta has an annual global spend of approximately $130M on cereal research and development (R&D)
• Worldwide, more than 400 Syngenta team members are focused on cereals
• Within North America, Syngenta has been breeding cereal varieties for close to four decades

Within Canada specifically, a large number of Syngenta employees are dedicated to supporting cereals, from R&D to asset management to marketing and sales.

Justin is the second Cereal Research Associate hired into this newly created role to support the advancement of cereals in Western Canada. Earlier this year, Sarah Laudin was appointed Cereal Research Associate based in Alberta. Justin joins the Western Biological Assessment Team based in Saskatoon. He will play an active role in enhancing the organization’s integrated R&D trialing efforts, support cereal active ingredient development molecules in the pipeline, and support Syngenta wheat breeding trials. Justin’s multidisciplinary experience in crop protection, plant breeding and plants with novel traits trialing means that he is particularly well suited to this role.

We are excited to add Justin to our cereals research team,” said Allen Terry, Syngenta Biological Assessment Manager, Western Canada, to whom Justin will report. “His skills and expertise will prove definite assets as Syngenta continues its program of innovation, involvement and investment in the cereal sector.”
