SGS Life Science Services announced the grand opening of its Fairfield, NJ facility, having just completed a major renovation that involved doubling the size of facility, investing in new, increased laboratory space, expanded client accommodations and new equipment. SGS’s Life Science Services business unit represents the world’s largest network of contract analytical laboratories providing analytical development, biologics characterization, biosafety and quality control release testing for the bio/pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical, and healthcare markets.

The expansion enlarges the size of the facility from 15,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet adding completely modernized and new GMP/GLP compliant laboratories and increases ICH Zone 1 – 4 storage capacities. Additionally, expanded accommodations for client audits and planning sessions were implemented as part of the design. Furthermore, SGS will invest significantly on new equipment to broaden its service offering in extractables and leachables as well as heavy metals testing. An Open House, with attendance by major clients, industry media, and local government officials is scheduled for September 27, 2012.

According to John Pirro, General Manager of the Fairfield site, the facility has been designed ”to respond to the current and future needs of a changing bio/pharmaceutical environment. This investment,” he said, “will provide future capacity to service the growing needs of the bio/pharmaceutical market with expanded capabilities for stability and other project work.”

"The expansion at this site demonstrates our commitment to delivering excellent quality, the latest technology and best–in-class service to our customers to sustain long term partnerships,” declared Anne Hays, Executive Vice President, SGS Life Science Services.  “With outsourcing becoming an integral part of large multinational pharmaceutical companies’ strategies, we want to assure our clients that we can accommodate both their routine and complex bio/pharmaceutical analytical outsourcing needs, integrating the latest developments in regulatory compliance.”

With 19 laboratories offering contract analytical and bioanalytical services, SGS leverages its strong global network to deliver harmonized solutions to large pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. In addition to testing services for the bio/pharmaceutical market, SGS also provides clinical trial management (Phase I to IV) and services encompassing data management and statistics, pharmacovigilance and regulatory consultancy.
