Zambia has agreed to a 15 percent fertilizer price reduction for the 2012-13 farming season with companies including a unit of Johannesburg-based Omnia Holdings Ltd. (OMN), Agriculture Minister Emmanuel Chenda said.
Omnia Small-Scale Ltd. and Nyiombo Investments will supply 153,634 metric tons of fertilizer for the period under the government’s Farmer Input Support Programme. Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia will supply 30,000 tons.
The government agreed to pay an average of 4.2 million kwacha ($855) for a ton of fertilizer, Chenda added. The value of Omnia’s contract was $47.2 million.
