Bayer CropScience has been granted the first regulatory approval worldwide for its new fungicidal seed treatment solution EverGol™ (active ingredient: penflufen) in Canada. The product sets a new standard in the control of Rhizoctonia solani, the most important disease in the Canadian canola, a summer oilseed rape crop. Products based on EverGol™ are characterized by a comprehensive and complete spectrum of activity. Canola seed treated with EverGol™ produces a healthy, vital canola crop and accordingly provides ideal conditions for increasing the marketable yield. It is planned to launch EverGol™ in Canada before the end of 2012.
"The registration of EverGol™ underlines our role as a leading provider of crop protection agents and seed in the oilseed rape business," said Matthias Haug, who is responsible for the global Seed Treatment business at Bayer CropScience. Last year, Bayer announced the registration of Emesto™, a seed treatment product for potatoes with the same active ingredient, in the United Kingdom. Products from the EverGol™/Emesto™ family are expected to be granted approval in more than 40 countries globally including the growing markets for seed treatment compounds in Latin America and Asia.
Bayer CropScience is developing customer-oriented solutions on the basis of EverGol™/ Emesto™ brand family for other economically significant crops beyond canola such as potatoes, soybeans, corn, cereals, cotton, rice and pulses. The market launches for these products are scheduled for 2012 onwards.
The active crop protection ingredient penflufen belongs to a new generation of SDH (succinate dehydrogenase) inhibitors. Products based on this innovative substance strengthen roots as well as entire plants during the delicate juvenile development phase and thus ensure consistent emergence and improved establishment in a wide spectrum of crops. They offer farmers markedly better options for stemming the main seed- and soil-borne diseases such as Rhizoctonia-, Fusarium- and Pythium-rots as well as Helminthosporium, even at very low application volumes. All products based on penflufen provide outstanding crop tolerance. They also help to drive yields and quality compared to existing seed treatment solutions. Therefore these new products make an important contribution throughout the entire value-added chain.
