EU grain area forecasted to up 2% in 2012qrcode

European grain plantings area will be 59.8 million ha in 2012, 1.9% higher than in 2011, forecasted the European Union trade association, Coceral.

Grain planting area in EU member states is forecasted to increase by 2.0% to 56.6 million ha this year, and non-EU countries, including Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Romania, are forecasted to plant 3.2 million ha grains. Soft wheat planting area in the EU is expected to fall by about 0.3 percent this year to 23.0 million ha. Barley is expected to up by 5.0% to 12.5 million ha.

Oilseeds planting area in EU member states is forecasted to fall by 3% to 11.3 million ha in 2012, and non-EU countries are forecasted to plant 522 thousand ha oilseeds crops.
