Korea set new MRL for Danitol Insecticide

Valent U.S.A. Corporation announced that the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has set a maximum residue level (MRL) for Danitol® Insecticide in cherries.

Effective Feb. 1, the KFDA set a 5.0-ppm import tolerance for fenpropathrin, the active ingredient in Danitol. That is the same level of tolerance permitted by the United States Food and Drug Administration. As a result, growers who use Danitol to protect their orchards from insects such as the spotted wing drosophila (SWD) can now export their fruit to Korea with confidence.

Valent is working toward establishing a similar MRL with Taiwan.

"Valent is grateful for the support and coordination provided by the California Cherry Advisory Board and its consultant, Bryant Christie, Inc.,” said Dan Fay, technology operations manager at Valent. “This collaboration helped us obtain the MRL and resolve this issue quickly for the benefit of cherry growers and buyers in the United States and Korea.”

Danitol provides cherry growers with excellent control of a broad spectrum of insects, including invasive insects such as SWD. This relatively new scourge of cherries became a concern for growers in 2010, and it now occurs in many fruit-growing regions.
