The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has renewed the suspension of the label approvals of products containing carbendazim that pre-date the January 2010 suspension of labels.

Sixteen products require suspension as they do not include the new instructions issued as part of that suspension. Seven products do not require suspension as they already comply with the suspension instructions.

The suspensions are in effect from 21 February 2012 until 25 January 2013 or until the APVMA revokes this suspension.

The APVMA has again issued the instructions that allow for the continued supply and use of carbendazim during the period of suspension. These instructions are identical to those issued in January 2010. Product can only be used in accordance with the instructions during the period of suspension.

The approvals and registrations of carbendazim remain under reconsideration on the basis of the potential for an undue hazard to human health and to those exposed to carbendazim during its handling, as well as concerns over the adequacy of labeling.
