Valent anticipates that Fierce, a pre-emergence herbicide (pyroxasulfone and flumioxazin) for use in reduced-tillage field corn and soybeans, will receive registration for corn in time for the 2012 season. Fierce has shown residual control of weeds including glyphosate-, ALS- and triazine-resistant Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, common lambsquarters, velvetleaf, dandelion, marestail, annual nightshades, pigweed species and annual grasses, the company says.

From Bayer CropScience comes Autumn Super herbicide(iodosulfuron and thiencarbazone). It controls winter annual weeds on acres planted to either corn or soybeans for the upcoming planting season, according to the company. Apply after annual weeds have emerged and are actively growing in the fall until early spring, but must be complete 30 days before planting corn and 90 days before planting soybeans.

Syngenta offers Zemax herbicide that contains two modes of action (mesotrione and S-metolachlor) for residual control of grasses and small-seeded broadleaf weeds such as waterhemp, pigweeds, foxtails, lambsquarters and ragweeds. It helps manage weed biotypes tolerant or resistant to glyphosate, ALS-inhibiting, PPO and triazine herbicides. It can be applied from early preplant or pre-emergence up to 30-in. corn height. The formulation is based on the same capsule-suspension formulation technology as Halex GT.

Touchdown CT2 herbicide from Syngenta provides systemic, broad-spectrum control of emerged annual and perennial grasses as well as broadleaf weeds in a wide range of crops, the company says. Touchdown CT2 contains a built-in adjuvant to reduce foaming.

Syngenta offers Gramoxone SL herbicide to replace Gramoxone Inteon. It has increased mixing compatibility and improved handling characteristics. The new formulation contains the same concentration of paraquat, but without the Inteon (alginate) technology. Gramoxone SL mixes readily with various qualities of water and calcium-containing nitrogen fertilizers.

BASF introduces Armezon herbicide as a post-emerge herbicide solution for corn. It controls grasses and broadleaf weeds such as common lambsquarters, waterhemp, giant foxtail and crabgrass – including those with resistance to glyphosate, triazines, PPOs and ALS inhibitors.

Zidua herbicide from BASF is a new soil-applied herbicide containing pyroxasulfone. A new class of chemistry, Zidua will allow growers to better protect their fields with long-lasting residual control of small-seeded broadleaf weeds and grasses, including problem glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth and waterhemp, according to the company. BASF expects EPA registration for 2012.

LeadOff herbicide (rimsulfuron and thifensulfuron) from DuPont provides Midsouth and Southeastern U.S. growers with burndown control of key broadleaves such as henbit and chickweed, as well as extended residual control of most winter grasses and broadleaves including annual bluegrass and marestail.  LeadOff can be used as a preplant through pre-emergence application in corn, and can be used 30 days prior to planting in soybeans or cotton.

Basis Blend herbicide replaces DuPont Basis 75DF in 2012. Basis Blend features an improved dry-blend formulation, which dissolves more completely for more effective burndown and residual control of glyphosate-resistant weeds as well as dandelion, poison hemlock, annual bluegrass, henbit and other winter annuals. It can be applied any time after harvest before the ground freezes.

Parallel Plus herbicide from MANA Crop Protection has two modes of action to provide pre- and early postemergent control of grasses, pigweeds, waterhemp and other small-seeded broadleaves including glyphosate resistant species. It can be used as part of a two-pass program on Roundup Ready, Clearfield and LibertyLink corn as well as conventional seed varieties.

FMC expects Anthem herbicide registration in late 2012. It is a mix of two modes of action (pyroxasulfone and fluthiacet-methyl) and offers producers the flexibility of being both a pre- and postemergence product for corn. Anthem is claimed to offer broad-spectrum weed control including key glyphosate-, ALS- and triazine-resistant biotypes, as well as difficult grasses and broadleaf weeds like pigweed, kochia, lambsquarters, waterhemp, velvetleaf, common ragweed and morningglory.

Registration is also pending forAnthem ATZ, which contains atrazine, for use in corn only. The premix formulation offers additional control of weeds like cocklebur and velvetleaf plus added post activity on small grasses.
