Biotrop launches broad-spectrum bioinsecticide Biobrev Full in Brazil

Biotrop announced exclusively to AgroPages the launch of Biobrev Full, a microbiological insecticide with distinct modes of action. 

According to the manufacturer, the bioinsecticide features ″innovative broad-spectrum technology″ and stands out for its ″efficiency in controlling key agricultural pest caterpillar species.″

Biotrop explained that Biobrev Full contains a synergistic triad of bacterial isolates that produce toxic compounds for insects. In its advanced formulation, the microorganisms are in endospore form, allowing compatibility with agrochemicals and other biologicals, and providing a two-year shelf life without refrigeration.

″The product consists of two complementary strains of Bacillus thuringiensis and the novel Brevibacillus laterosporus, producing antibiotics and toxins that act on the midgut of caterpillars,″ said Thales Facanali Martins, Portfolio Manager at Biotrop.

He explained that the action occurred when caterpillars ingest the product and the enzymes break down CRY crystals, which become active toxins, while VIPS toxins are secreted outside the cells, causing cell death and loss of intestinal function,.

Caterpillars are among the major agricultural pests causing damage, as they can attack crops from the early stages of development, negatively impacting productivity. Climate conditions such as high temperatures and elevated humidity further worsen the situation, favoring the proliferation of these insects.

For Thales Facanali Martins, these differentiators make Biobrev Full unique in the market, standing out due to its different crystals, toxins, and antibiotics. ″It is definitely an excellent tool for managing caterpillar resistance to traditional products,″ the Biotrop manager emphasized.

″With Biobrev Full, farmers ensure crop preservation while also contributing to soil regeneration by using a 100% natural product, which, in addition to being cost-effective, does not harm the environment,″ Thales said in conclusion.
