Summit Agro showcases ‘Howler’ bioactivator in Argentina

Summit Agro held a series of events in Argentina to showcase the bioactivator, ″Howler,″ a biological product that improves the responses of soy, wheat and barley to both biotic and abiotic stress conditions.

According to the manufacturer, Howler is a plant defense system inducer that can be mixed with products of chemical origin, such as herbicides.

″Howler is a biological product based on a protein of fungal origin,″ said agronomist Ayelen Gago (Head of Insecticide Products at Summit Agro Argentina).

″The response mediated by hormones is activated in a specific area where the product comes into contact, but it is transmitted systemically, protecting the entire crop,″ she added.

Among biotic factors, diseases stand out, and among the abiotic ones, the stress caused by climatic conditions is the main issue and has gained special importance due to the hydric stress caused by the La Niña phenomenon over the past three campaigns.

Under these conditions, Summit Agro stressed that it is important to incorporate products that have a low metabolic cost, like Howler, into a management plan, as they do not force crops to greatly expend energy when they are applied, improving overall conditions and, ultimately, increasing the yield of the harvest.

Howler, which is registered for soybeans, wheat and barley, has a preventive effect, so it is essential to apply it before the onset of stress conditions to maximize its response.

Tests have been carried out across the country over various campaigns, which achieved an average yield response of 100 kg/ha in soybeans and an excellent cost-benefit ratio.

″Another positive aspect of this product is the fact that it can be mixed with products of chemical origin, such as herbicides. On the other hand, incorporating Howler into a production plan helps reduce the chemical load on the crop,″ Gago said.

″Summit Agro is very interested in developing this type of product, and this is why we are working to expand its use to other crops, such as maize, sunflower and regional crops,″ she said in conclusion.
