Nigeria bans thirty pesticides

Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has banned the sale and supply of 30 agrochemical products in the country. The move was triggered by cases of food poisoning after the consumption of food crops treated with the chemicals. Laboratory tests revealed high levels of the organophosphate insecticides, chlorpyrifos and fenitrothion, and the organochlorine insecticide, lindane, in the food.
