Valent U.S.A. Corporation has received registration for drip applications of Presidio® Fungicide (active ingredient: fluopicolide) on brassica, cucurbits, and fruiting and leafy vegetables in New York.

This new registered use gives New York vegetable growers the ability to effectively prevent or control downy mildew and Phytophthora blight (caused by P. capsici) even earlier in the season. Growers who use Presidio through drip irrigation gain the advantage of an effective new class of chemistry and another method of application to protect their vegetable crops.

"Presidio is highly active on even fungicide-resistant Oomycete pathogens, giving New York growers a powerful tool to incorporate into their disease management programs,” said Gerald Holmes, Valent product development manager.

The new drip irrigation application also gives growers better control of soil-borne diseases, because Presidio translocates through the plant for complete protection.

"By putting Presidio in drip irrigation, you put it right where it needs to be for soil-borne diseases that affect the root and the crown,” said Holmes. “Because Presidio has great systemic activity, it can translocate through the plant—protecting the roots and aboveground plant parts as well.”

Unlike other fungicide products, Presidio has no known tank mix limitations with other fungicides or insecticides. Presidio can also be applied via sprinkler or used as a foliar treatment.

"With a variety of application options, a novel mode of action and outstanding efficacy, Presidio is an excellent tool for growers,” said Holmes.
