The Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs of the Department of Agricultural Defense, from Mapa, published Act No. 11, on March 4 in the Official Gazette of the Union, with a record of 26 formulated pesticides.

Of these, three are new active ingredients, one of which is biologically based, an unprecedented blend and four records for use in organic agriculture.

The active ingredient Ametoctradin will be offered to rural producers for the first time. It is a systemic fungicide, registered in a mixture with the Dimethomorph fungicide, to control late blight in potatoes and important diseases in crops with insufficient phytosanitary support (minor crops), such as garlic, pumpkin, zucchini and chayote.

The other product, also unprecedented in Brazil, is Mefentrifluconazole. The pesticide appears in a mixture with two other fungicides to control diseases such as cotton ramulariosis, coffee rust, soybean rust, among others. ″The mixture is important because each component has a different mode of action, reducing the pressure of selection of resistant pathogens,″ explained the General Coordinator of Pesticides and Related Products, André Peralta.

The novelty of the biologicals is due to the first record of the wasp Palmistichus elaeisis, authorized to control the eucalyptus caterpillar Thyrinteina arnobia.

The unpublished mixture registered is Oxathiapiprolin with Mandipropamide. The product will be used to control tomato late blight and vine downy mildew.

Four products were registered for use in organic agriculture. These were, isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki and Beauveria bassiana; a product based on Metarhizium anisopliae and another with Azadirachta indica (neem oil).

Low impact products are essential for agriculture not only for toxicological and environmental aspects but also for benefiting crops with insufficient phytosanitary support since these products are approved by target pests and can be recommended in any crop.

The other products use active ingredients previously registered in the country. The registration of generic pesticides is important to reduce market concentration and increase competition, which results in fairer trade and lower production costs for Brazilian agriculture.

All registered products were analyzed and approved by the bodies responsible for health, environment and agriculture, according to scientific criteria and in line with the best international practices.
