Corn planting in Missouri jumped 20 points last week to 79 percent complete. While that’s 10 days behind last year it’s five days ahead of normal. As of Sunday, 50% of corn had emerged, according to the Missouri Ag Statistics office, which is close to average but a week behind last year. Replanting is continuing where saturated ground has been a problem. Flood waters in southeast Missouri began to recede and there’s a big jump in cotton planting but at 39% complete that’s almost three weeks behind last year and the average. As one southeast Missouri farmer told Brownfield, “It’s a mess down here.”

Soybeans are 21 percent planted statewide, six days ahead of last year and two days ahead of normal.
