A rapid action total herbicide from Scotts Professional, Hammer contains a new active ingredient developed at Scotts Research & Development in France.

The ingredient, a combination of pyraflufen-ethyl and glyphosate, causes visible signs of destruction of the aerial part of the plant within 24 hours by inhibiting the enzymes that drive photosynthesis, while the systemic action of glyphosate completes the kill.

Applied post emergence, Hammer is suited for use between April and September when weeds are actively growing. It is rainfast within six hours and effectively controls annual and perennials weeds including tough brush weeds, bramble and bracken.

The product is registered for use on natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation, permeable surfaces overlaying soil and to control weeds around ornamental trees and shrubs.

Hammer has been trialled for two years on non-cultivated and industrial land at Scotts' Levington Research Station near Ipswich.

Richard Walton, Scotts’ Business Manager for the UK and Ireland said: "Scotts products have a reputation for delivering results and Hammer is no exception. There is a huge amount of pressure put on landscape contractors and amenity managers to keep areas weed-free. Hammer kills weeds quickly, and the results of their work can be seen instantly."
