On 20th August, the Official Gazette of the Union announced the registration of 28 agricultural pesticides that will be available for use by farmers. Five, which are new to the country, were formulated from the active ingredient, pyroxasulfone, either alone or in mixture with other active ingredients, while ten are biological microbiologicals and one is a pheromone.

The announcement is the first time this year when products formulated from a new active ingredient were registered. Pyroxasulfone is a herbicidal molecule used for controlling weeds in coffee, sugar cane, eucalyptus, corn, pine, soybean, wheat, peanut, potato, barley, tobacco, sunflower and cassava.

Another novelty is the new registration of flubendiamide. Until today, there was only one formulated product containing this molecule, which is produced and marketed by only one company. The new product is meant for use on minor crops or small crops, such as peanuts, oats, rye, barley, peas, chickpeas and triticale. “The monopoly on flubendiamide is being broken. With this registration, the market will be fairer and prices will be more accessible for rural producers,” said Bruno Breitenbach (General Coordinator of Agrochemicals).
