From 2019 to 2020, there was a 13% decline in the number of companies working in Brazil. While the sectors of industry, services and, especially, commerce continue to suffer considerable losses, the agribusiness sector stands out as the only segment in growth, in the order of 6.9% during the stated period with a total of 703,200 companies in the country. This statement is based on statistics from the IPC Maps Survey, which compiles the consumption potential of Brazilians for over 25 years based on official data.

Marcos Pazzini (Director of IPC Maps), said, “Agribusiness has been showing positive results over the past few years, unlike what is happening with the rest of the Brazilian economy. This is reflected in the number of companies in the sector.”

The survey also pointed out that the increase in agribusiness is due to the progress of the country’s southeastern regions, with an increase of 9% and the creation of 52,354 new companies, as well as the midwestern regions, expanding by 646 establishments (+3.1%). Other regions performed negatively.

This is just an excerpt from the survey completed last May, which took into account the entire pandemic scenario and highlighted the fact that national consumption in various economic sectors will be equal to 2012 levels, the greatest retraction since 1995.
