Danmarks Statistik, the Danish statistics bureau, has released figures. These indicate organic fruit and vegetable sales have more than doubled. That is in the last four years in Denmark.

Organic strawberries, lettuce, cucumbers, and potatoes are currently very popular. Then consider consumption over the last four years. Organic potato, fruit, lettuce, and cabbage have tripled.

Michael Langberg is Økologisk Landsforening's marketing director. This is an organic farming association. He says, "People prefer organic products. That's because they can be certain these contain no pesticides. Replace five basic products with their organic counterpart."

"You can then already halve your pesticide intake. Consumers are also more pro-Danish products. They, for instance, buy seasonal vegetables. People are far more concerned about the environment. They, therefore, prefer products that protect the environment and groundwater."

In Denmark, organic fruit and vegetables have a market share of 24.7 and 22.7%, respectively. That's according to GFK Consumer Scan. Organic carrots are currently good for almost half of all carrot sales. They have a 45.2% share.

"Danish consumers are far ahead of this global trend. It's now about eating healthier and choosing sustainable products," concludes Langberg.
