Syngenta recently launched its new “KarateTrap” trapping system to capture Ceratitis capitata, as a tool for the selective control of this pest of various crops, such as stone or pome fruit, citrus and table grapes and wine grapes.

KarateTrap, which is authorized for organic production, is composed of three basic elements, which are an optimal folding trap for capturing its target pest; a cover impregnated with the effective insecticide, Karate Zeon, at a quantity of 0.0075g applied on the inside of the cap that acts on contact; and specific food attractants for its target pest.

The trap should be placed in sufficient numbers of between 40 and 80 traps depending on the crop for around 45 days before fruits ripen. It can also be used between 90 and 100 days before harvesting and is recommended for placement at a height of between 1.5 and 2 meters.

It is important to highlight the efficiency and persistence of Karate Zeon, which is the basis of the trap’s pest control abilities, leading to its high capture capacity and ease of use, along with its transparent cover that enables the efficient monitoring of catches.

The trap comes fully assembled and is ready to hang simply on trees, facilitating placement and optimizing the effectiveness of its insecticides. The system also ensures a low risk of developing resistance and is highly pest selective, without affecting beneficial insects.

The original Spanish version of this report is from Syngenta España.
