Zaad, a company which invests and operates in the agri-inputs industry, has acquired 40% of East African Seed Company (EAS). The company has identified East and Central Africa as important growth areas for seed and agro chemicals. Once completed, the investment will provide Zaad access to these markets. Furthermore, Zaad’s seed products and genetics will enhance EAS’ profile.

The agreement is still subject to a number of conditions precedent, which include receipt of relevant regulatory and competition agreements.

Zaad is a subsidiary of Zeder, an active investor in the broad agribusiness and related industries. Its portfolio consists of strategic interests that provide it with a diversified exposure across the agribusiness spectrum – from agri-inputs to FMCG.

Maitri Capital acted as sole financial adviser to EAS and Anjarwalla & Khanna acted as legal adviser.

It has business operations in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia and its products are distributed through a wide distribution network of appointed dealers and stockists in major cities and towns throughout Eastern and Central Africa.
