The board of National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) of Brazil decided to open a "Public Consultation" (n ° 645) on a proposal to include the monograph of the active ingredient, fluopyram (F72). If approved, the fungicide will become part of the Monographs List of the Active Ingredients of Agrochemicals, Household Cleaning Products and Wood Preservers in the Country.

Starting from May 21 of this year, the proposal, available in its entirety on Anvisa's website, is open to criticism, comments and suggestions from the general public for 60 days. Suggestions should be sent in written form via the electronic address (http://portal.anvisa.gov.br/agrotoxicos/publicacoes) to the postal address of the agency or to its e-mail address, cp.toxicologia@anvisa.gov.br.

Fluopyram is a fungicide used against diseases such as gray mold (Botrytis cinerea), powdery mildew (Erysiphe diffusa), Alternaria, Sclerotinia and Monilinia. There are also studies presented in Brazil about its efficiency in the control of the root lesions nematode (Pratylenchus brachyurus).

It is an inhibitor of succinate dehydrogenase. In 2012, it was approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). The following year, in 2013, it was approved in the European Union.

Of the chemical group pyrazinamide, fluopyram has toxicological classification Class III - Moderately toxic. Its agricultural use is authorized for foliar application in cotton, beans and soybean crops. It can also be applied to the soil via drench in the coffee crop, and by application in the planting groove in potato, sugarcane and soybean crops. The fungicide can also be used for the treatment of cotton, corn and soybean seeds.

According to Anvisa, all contributions received will be public and will remain available to anyone who accesses the site. "After the stipulated deadline, the National Health Surveillance Agency will promote the analysis of the contributions and after the deliberation of the Collegiate Board, will make available the results of the public consultation on the site," said the agency.

Anvisa stressed that it may "articulate with the bodies and entities involved and those who have expressed an interest in this matter to subsidize subsequent technical discussions and final deliberation of the Board of Directors".
