Syngenta announced the launch of the Cidetrak EGVM Meso (E, Z -7,9 Dodecadien-1-yl-Acetate) pheromone in Chile. It sexually attracts insects and helps in the management of the European grapevine moth (Lobesia botrana) in the cultivation of grapes.

According to Syngenta, only 80 distribution points of the Cidetrak EGVM Meso per hectare are needed, the product is "modern and easy to install".

The pheromone confuses the males of the Lobesia botrana species, decreasing the mating or copulation probability of the insect, and consequently, reducing the population density and eliminating the presence of eggs and larvae in the vines. However, the manufacturer pointed out that the product does not eliminate adult insects, eggs or larvae.

According to Syngenta, the Cidetrak EGVM Meso does not act on any other species except Lobesia botrana. It added that the product, because of its uses and characteristics, does not pose any risk to the health of humans and other mammals, and that there was no need for protective measures in its application in the field.

The Cidetrak EGVM Meso pheromone is part of Biocontrols, Syngenta's sustainable solutions platform. The platform also has fungicides Timorex Gold and Botristop and biostimulant Vitazyme.
