Off-patent farm pesticide maker MANA Canada has picked up registration for its own entry into what it calls "the Roundup Ready marketplace."

Calgary-based MANA, the Canadian arm of Israeli chemical firm Makhteshim Agan, has dubbed its North American-made product Glyphogan Plus.

Launched into a market long held by Monsantos flagship brand Roundup under patent protection, Glyphogan is "just as powerful as the name-brand product, but as expected with MANA products, its priced a little better," according to commercial business manager Dale Kushner.

Glyphogan Plus "uses the power of glyphosate to safely treat all Roundup Ready crops including canola, corn and soybean," the company said in a release Tuesday.

The product can be used at pre-seeding as part of annual weed control, or pre-harvest to control quackgrass, Canada thistle and dandelions in glyphosate-tolerant crops, the company said.

Glyphogan Plus is to be sold by the case (two 10-litre containers) or in a 750-litre tote format, MANA said.
