Think Real - On 1 June, 2017, the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC) updated the newest dynamics of rice diseases and pests in China. Accordingly, due to the less precipitation recently, the immigration of rice planthoppers and rice leaf rollers is much less and the harm by rice sheath blight and rice blast is lighter over the same period last year. By late May 2017, the accumulative occurrence area of rice diseases and pests in China had reached 3.8 million ha, down by 24.2% year on year.

Rice planthoppers: by the end of May, the accumulative occurrence area had reached 666,600 ha, decreasing by 52.0% year on year.

Rice leaf rollers: the accumulative occurrence area had reached 349,333 ha, decreasing by 35.8% year on year.

Rice asiatic borers: the accumulative occurrence area had reached 2.1 million ha, increasing by 1.1% year on year.

Sheath blight: the accumulative occurrence area had reached 489,333 ha, decreasing by 35.7% year on year.

Rice blast: the accumulative occurrence area had reached 140,000.0 ha, decreasing by 4.3% year on year.

But the NATESC reminds that the precipitation in South China and Jiangnan Region will increase, which will favor the occurrence of rice diseases and pests. Therefore, local agricultural governments have to keep alarmed and timely publish information related to guide farmers to prevent and control them.
