Syngenta's Good Growth Plan covered 243,000 ha in South America

Syngenta has presented the result of the third year of The Good Growth Plan, which covers six ambitious commitments for the year 2020 to contribute towards the sustainability of agriculture and the development of rural communities. In the South of Latin America (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile), 243,000 arable hectares (ha) were improved through initiatives in soil conservation and biodiversity.“Our strategy marks a differential in the industry. It aims to show how sustainability can benefit the business. Year after year, we add experiences and new results that allow to feed our program and show the advancements made by each one of the pillars,” pointed out Antonio Aracre, general-director of Syngenta, South of Latin America.
In 2016, Syngenta signed new strategic alliances to work in the field of efficient use of water and nutrients. For instance, the work developed by the Argentine Association of No-Tillage Growers benefited over 85,000 ha, improving the state of planting of corn and crop rotation.
To improve the soil fertility, Syngenta has worked with the National University of Rosario, promoting the knowledge on the benefits of professional seed treatment in the first stages of planting, mostly on the efficient use of water and nutrients. The Plenus technology covered 151,029 ha.
Syngenta expanded its partnership with Conicet in Argentina to scale the multi-functional landscapes to reach out to more producers and to boost colonies of pollinators. The expansion was not just in Argentina, but also in Chile, where 392.5 ha of multi-functional landscapes were created under the methodology of ornamental flower planting on crops in the interest of the farmers and the country.
Moreover, 34,398 people received training in the responsible use of agrochemical products. In addition to the company’s own efforts, the association with Crop Life in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile and Bolivia was also highlighted.
