AgroPages-NATESC predicts: stricken area of rice diseases and pests in 2017 to reach 92.7 million ha in China-Agricultural news

By Think Real - In Jan. 2017, the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC) updated the occurrence trend of rice diseases and pests in 2017, according to which the stricken area is estimated at 92.7 million ha. The accumulative occurrence areas of pests and diseases are 63.3 million ha and 29.3 million ha respectively.

Occurrence features:

1. The threats from rice planthoppers and rice leaf rollers are still the biggest, with stricken areas of 26.3 million ha. and 17.3 million ha. respectively.

2. The striking form rice borers is rising obviously, with an estimated stricken area of 18.0 million ha.

3. The epidemic risks of rice blast and bacterial diseases are high, including rice sheath blight, rice blast, rice false smut and rice virus disease.
