Indian company UPL has announced that its insecticide Perito (acephate) can now be used for the crops of fruits and vegetables in Brazil. The product can now be used to manage Enneothrips flavens on peanuts and white fly, and also Empoasca kraemeri on kidney beans.

Perito is a systemic insecticide with a wide spectrum action with shock effects, action contact and ingestion. The product was earlier released in Brazil for the control of greenfly (Aphis gossypii), cotton stainers (Dysdercus) and Helicoverpa armigera on cotton.

It is also recommended for the combat of this caterpillar on soybeans, and for the velvetbean caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis) and the Euschistus heros.

Classified as “sucking insects”, the whitefly, the flavens and the Empoasca kraemeri are spreaders of the viruses and lead to a fall in crop yields. These plagues can result in major losses to the crops of peanuts and kidney beans in several Brazilian regions.

“Aiming at obtaining a healthy and quality crop, we have certified that Perito is also good for fruits and vegetables. It is a big achievement for the UPL. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in this domain,” said Fernando Gilioli, market developer at UPL.
