Without any serious weather problems so far, 2016-17 Brazil crop potential is strong, as confirmed by the map below.

Posted on the NOAA website, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) map denotes those areas in green where vegetative health is better compared to last year. That includes the bulk of Brazil, with the exception of the far eastern regions, where dryness has been a problem. However, virtually no crop production occurs in those eastern areas.

Meanwhile, vegetative health also appears strong in central and northern Argentina – where the vast majority of the soybean crop is grown - but weak in the more southern regions of the country. Soybean futures shot strongly higher last week in response to overly wet weather in the central production areas of the country, but things have since improved with drier conditions now.
