By Think Real - On 5 Dec., 2016, China National Seed Group Co., Ltd. (CNSG) and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) signed an agreement in Dhaka, for the construction of the Bangladesh AR&D Centre, which is aimed at giving full play to both sides’ biological breeding technologies and regular breeding technologies and accelerating the breeding of hybrid rice seeds applicable to Bangladesh (regarding both planting conditions and consumption habits), so as to cope with unfavourable conditions such as extreme climates, and level up local grain production. Reportedly, this is the 1st R&D centre established by CNSG in foreign countries.

Md. Moinuddin Abdullah, Permanent Secretary of the Bangladesh’s Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said the following, “Rice is the most important crop in our country. It is of paramount importance to our agricultural development. However, the growth in population and the land salinisation and alkalisation are challenging the rice production now. We hope that China and CNSG will give us assistance in increasing the rice output and guaranteeing the safety of food and nutritionals.”

In order to make rice cultivars applicable to local production conditions rapidly, CNSG also signed a business promotion and development agreement with GBK, and meanwhile made a deep exchange regarding the promotions of hybrid rice technology in Bangladesh.

CNSG is the 1st company promoting China developed hybrid rice technology in the world. Following 30+ year development, it is now a largescale seed corporation involved in R&D, production, processing, marketing, and technical services. Its businesses cover rice, wheat, corn, oils, vegetables and suchlike key crops.

BADC is a state-owned agricultural group affiliated to Bangladesh’s MOA. It is running the businesses of seed, irrigating, fertiliser and finance, and is supplying quality seeds, fertilisers, irrigating technologies and financial support to farmers.
